This hip roof incorporates a piggyback (also called a cap and base) truss system. When trusses are too tall to ship in one piece, they are capped and installed as a multi-level system. The simplicity of the layout and connection details allow even first time truss installers to safely and efficiently install large truss projects. Although not shown in this image, RTC "drops" the step-down hip trusses to allow hat channel over-framing which eliminates the need to turn the sheathing 90 degrees when transitioning from the end jacks to the step down hip trusses. RTC strives for simplified construction wherever possible.
